Renovation as part of monument protection,
Frankfurt am Main
The Baroque‑Classical building dating from 1898–1903 is listed as a cultural monument and is to be put to an appropriate use. The former headquarters of Frankfurter Versicherungs AG, now Allianz SE, is clad with a high‑quality natural stone façade featuring numerous sculptures and ornaments. In close coordination with the heritage authorities, it underwent extensive and elaborate façade restoration. The aim of the careful renovation was to restore the building’s original appearance.
The two 800‑kg sandstone figures above the main entrance were severely damaged; therefore, the two putti were faithfully reconstructed. The sandstone reliefs were also meticulously restored and partially replaced, as was the black wrought‑iron main portal. The 140 old windows were replaced with solid oak windows featuring profiled mullions. The wooden shutters were crafted with historically inspired hand‑milled light and air slots and can be opened outward along the restored historic guide rails.
The existing roof structure was dismantled and replaced with a new timber construction. The delicate, saddle‑shaped glass roof above the light‑filled atrium was restored in constructive collaboration with the heritage authorities.
