Mixed-use Ensemble

The construction of a mixed-use building complex with retail, offices and residential units is planned in a prominent urban location in Heidelberg. MOW's competition entry envisages the design of space-creating structures that lie as an ensemble on a common base that brings together the building parts in terms of design and space.

The closed block development in the base area lies below the bridge level and gradually dissolves into differentiated, individual structures. This development gives the ensemble exciting outdoor spaces with views of the surroundings and the greenery. The arrangement of the buildings results in natural spaces in between, which, due to the elevated position and the passages between the buildings, allow focused lines of sight and at the same time shield the enclosed courtyard from road and rail noise.
