Christ-König Quartier

Venues for encounter,

Okriftel

The design is based on the idea of preserving Okriftel's historical identity while offering space for contemporary community life. At the centre is Christ König Church, which remains a striking landmark. It forms the starting point for a harmonious interplay of new residential development, generous open spaces and social amenities. Around the church, an ensemble of modern, discreetly designed residential buildings is being created, which deliberately subordinate themselves in terms of height and design language. This allows the characteristic structure of the church to remain visible, while the new development blends seamlessly into the smaller-scale surroundings. The church square is being reinterpreted as a spacious forecourt and forms a central hub that can serve as a meeting place for the neighbourhood and beyond.

Our approach to the architecture draws on the historic simplicity of the church building: wooden elements, harmonious colour schemes and clean lines give the buildings a contemporary, inviting feel. The open spaces connect the buildings and create a green network that ranges from private gardens and sheltered courtyards to publicly accessible squares. Diverse plantings, shaded seating areas, play areas and a spring stone to improve the microclimate contribute to making the neighbourhood a place where people enjoy spending time.

A sustainable mobility concept with reduced parking spaces, car-sharing offers, modern bicycle parking facilities and additional services such as a parcel station consciously promotes the switch to environmentally friendly forms of mobility. This means that the open space remains largely car-free and can be used by people.

The new buildings set new standards in terms of energy efficiency. State-of-the-art technology, high insulation standards, heat pumps and photovoltaics are used to create buildings with energy efficiency class A or even A+. The partial reuse of the existing church structure also has a positive effect on the ecological balance. Thanks to well-thought-out technical concepts, natural surface cooling can even be achieved in summer, eliminating the need for energy-intensive cooling devices.

Our design for the Christ König Quarter is a commitment to a holistic planning approach: we preserve what already exists, design new elements with respect and create a place where community can once again be consciously experienced. A neighbourhood is growing here that combines tradition and the future – a new centre for Okriftel that knows its roots and is open to new ideas at the same time.
